Jee-Hye Bae is a cellist who has earned international recognition for her exceptional artistry. As an orchestral musician, she demonstrates refined ensemble sensitivity and strong leadership, while as a soloist she captivates audiences with profound musical insight and expressive depth. Performing actively across Europe and Asia, she continues to share sincere and deeply moving music with listeners worldwide.
Korean cellist Jee-Hye Bae currently serves as Assistant Principal Cello of the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne. Recognized as one of the leading cellists of her generation, she is a prizewinner of the Isang Yun International Competition and the Johannes Brahms Competition, and was a finalist at the Naumburg International Cello Competition.
Highly sought after as a soloist, Ms. Bae has appeared with numerous orchestras in Korea, including the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra, Busan Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Korean Symphony Orchestra. In Europe, she has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra of South Bohemia, earning acclaim for her expressive depth and refined artistry.
Born in South Korea in 1988, Ms. Bae began studying the cello at the age of ten under Kyoung Ok Park and Chung Shim Baik. She continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg with Jean-Guihen Queyras. After completing the academy program of the Staatskapelle Berlin, she served as Assistant Principal Cello of the orchestra under Daniel Barenboim until 2017.
Throughout her career, she has worked with many of the world’s most renowned cellists and pedagogues through masterclasses and international festivals, including Yo-Yo Ma, Bernard Greenhouse, Wolfgang Böttcher, Jian Wang, David Geringas, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, Gary Hoffman, Peter Bruns, Jens Peter Maintz, Aldo Parisot, Miklós Perényi, Philippe Muller, and Timothy Eddy.
